Building A Target Twitter Nework

Many People are wondering how to use twitter for business. Do you just tweet all day long? Do you want to just have as many followers as you possibly can? It’s best for most businesses to build a targeted audience with twitter. To find those users on twitter who are interested in your brand or at least having conversations about your brand or things related to your brand. But how does one go about doing this?

Well the first thing you can do is use search.twitter.com you can enter a search term and see all the “tweets” that have been “tweeted” with that search term. (See image below) This is a great way to find out if a keyword you are using is being used by tweeters a lot of the time or not.

For instance you can search the term ‘iPhone’ the results will show you that there are quite a lot of tweets using this term. You can determine that by looking at how far apart each tweet is. You can see that they are a few seconds apart. If the keyword you are using is not being used that much you will see that the tweets may be hours or days apart.

You want to determine what keywords are hot or not because you will be using these keywords to add users from twitter to your account. You can do this manually or by using software. If are going to picky about what users you want to follow then I would recommend adding users manually. You can just click on the users name from the search and follow them. On the other hand… maybe you are an iPhone App company and want to add all the users on twitter that you can possibly find that are ‘tweeting’ about anything related to the iPhone. Because there are so many users out there you may want to use software to speed things up.

I recommend tweet adder to help you on this adventure.

Above is a shot of tweet adder. Here you can enter those keywords under the who to follow tab. The software will gather id’s from your search term and let you know how many users it found that match your terms. You can search by tweet, bio or location.

Once you have completed your search, you are then able to add those users to your account. One of the great things about this software is the unfollow tab. You are able to unfollow all the users that have not followed you back. The software let’s you set a duration of days to wait before you go ahead and unfollow.

The software will only unfollow users that you have followed using the software. Why would you want to unfollow users that haven’t added you? Well first of all it looks pretty lame when you are following 10,000 users and only 2,000 users are following you back. The other reason is because there is no point for those users to be connected to you, unless you feel that their tweets are important for you. You are not able to direct message users who are not following you back , and they don’t see your tweets. So what’s the point of having them on your following list??

Now continue doing this with different keywords related to your brand. In the end you are building a more targeted twitter audience than you would be if you were just adding users here and there!
